INTRODUCTION

This paper will discuss the design and implementation of a filtering system for the World Wide Web. The goal of this filtering system is to give the end-user more control over the content delivered to their web browser with customizable filters that act as a gateway between the browser and the Internet. Web content passed through these filters can be scanned, recorded, modified, and deleted as needed. The filtering system can be used to make web browsing more secure and address issues of privacy and access control.

This chapter will provide a brief history of the web and expand upon the goals of this project. Following chapters will provide background information, describe the necessity of filters and enhancements they can provide, discuss the implementation of the filtering system, cover related projects, and finally make conclusions about this research and suggest future areas of study.
